TELE CHAMPERY – CROSETS PORTES DU SOLEIL SA

Yesterday
Profiting from a climate favourable with precipitations, our area of Champéry - Crosets was quickly directed towards tourism in order to supplement the primarily agricultural activities of the time. Besides Champéry celebrate its 150 years of tourism in 2007.

Thus a first cable car was built in 1939 already between Champéry and Planachaux by the company "Cable car Champéry - Planachaux SA". Then, in 1947, a T-bar lift was brought into service at Planachaux and marked the true beginnings of the era of the ski in this area. Since, the multitude of the skiers increased continuously and, under the impulse of local professors of ski and some landowners, another ski-lift was born in Les Crosets twelve years later, in 1959 by another company called "Crosets - Croix de Culet SA". Consequently, it was possible to make the connection between Les Crosets and Planachaux.
A hurricane devastated a great part of the forests of the « Vallée d’Illiez » in 1962 and one road was built since the tops of the village of Val-d’Illiez until Les Crosets to evacuate wood. The very young station of Les Crosets launched out thus in the beautiful adventure of the ski and built other ski lifts with a third company called "Remontées Mécaniques Planachaux – Portes du Soleil SA". The network of the ski lifts developed until 1985 equipping all the resort ranging between Champéry and Les Crosets.
In the interval, in 1968 a first connection was carried out with the French station close to Avoriaz while passing by Chavanette more known today under the denomination of "Swiss wall". This transborder connection allowed the starting of the Swiss-French ski area of the Portes du Soleil (650 km of slopes and 204 ski lifts).
In 1998, the two companies of ski lifts of Champéry and  Les Crosets merged under the corporate name "Tele Champéry - Crosets Portes du Soleil SA.
Today
Our company manages 17 ski lifts, that is to say: 1 cable car, 7 chair-lifts, 7 skis-lift and 2 babies-lifts which carry out on the whole some 6 million passages per season with a rate per hour of 23' 200 people. Our own skiable field extends on 50 km from tracks from all levels located between 1' 050 m and 2' 250 m from altitude. Our company employs 130 people during the winter and 30 all the year what represents an annual wage bill of more than 5 million swiss franks.

Tomorrow

The reorganization of our ski lifts will continue during these next years in order to still improve our ski resort in terms of comfort and safety. The planning studied over 15 years (2005 - 2020) envisages the reduction of the number of ski lifts from 18 to 14 units (1 cable car, 8 chair-lifts, 2 ski-lifts and 3 baby-lifts) while maintaining to the same flow of 23' 200 people per hour.

The investments generated by this modernization of our park of ski lifts will reach some 30 million franks without hoping the amounts to be still devoted for the improvement of our mechanical snowing up (between 3 and 5 million swiss franks).

In order to be able to guarantee the financing of these projects and thus the perpetuation of our company, it will be advisable to support the creation of commercial beds (beds atstrong occupancy rate) which constitute the base of our sales turnover.
